The Student Athletic Fee Committee
Each semester, every student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is charged the $50.00 Student Athletic fee, which goes directly to the Athletics Department for support of student-athletes, through scholarships, travel, materials and supplies, and other expenses, but not staff compensation or benefits. The fee also enables Mānoa students to attend home athletic events simply by showing their ID cards for free—a first for the campus. This fee also set up designated student seating areas at the Aloha Stadium, the Les Murakami Stadium and the Stan Sheriff Stadium as stated in the student benefits package.
In addition, 8% of the revenues are set aside for student activities, as determined by the Student Athletic Fee Committee to disburse as they see fit. The committee has two arms of funding: direct programming and indirect programming.
The Student Athletic Fee Committee is comprised of 9 student members representing each CSO on campus; Associated Students at UH, Campus Center Board, Broadcast Communication Authority, Board Of Publications, Graduate Student Organization, Student Activity and Program Fee Board and Student Athlete Advisory Committee. The duty of the committee is to: represent the expressed interests of the fee-paying student body, take actions appropriate to fulfilling the purposes of SAFC, work cooperatively with UHM Athletic Department to promote the student experience on campus and at athletic events as well as students’ athletic experience, for the collective benefits of undergraduate and graduate students and maintain open communication with the campus community.
